Oh, maybe not so good then to have the doorways in the middle, like you said, would be hard for people to hear all the speeches and that's one of the best parts of a wedding!

Shame no music or even speakers available!! Did you hire a DJ then? Was he/she any good? Wouldn?t have a clue where to start looking for a DJ in Sthlm, guess on this website there will be links!

Yep, got the same feeling about Stallmästaregården, it was quite old and dark and we are really looking for somewhere light and airy.

We have the church bit all booked, well just about. It is the English Church near Djurgarden which is really lovely.

Think we will have about 60 or so people coming from abroad and I think it would be nice for them to stay in Sthlm for the weekend, though a wedding venue outside of town would be nice if we could hire a boat maybe to take the people to it, they would get to see more of the beautiful archipelago that way.

We would definitely like a castle for the wedding venue, though haven?t managed to find any that can take 120 for the meal at the moment. We would love a boat trip to one; maybe about an hour away would be ok.

Maybe Sonya is right, a weddingplanner is worth gold!? And you can always choose how much help you want.. so it does´nt have to be so expensive.

Have been keeping an eye on this discussion as Grand Hotell was one of the venues we considered (and later rejected, good choice it appears) and just saw Hanban's request for tips regarding venues. I would recommend that you look into Lovik on Lidingö (www.lovik.se/). This is one of the few places that could accomodate 120 guests (a girl in my office had the same number of guests and had a really hard time finding venues but wound up choosing Lovik and was sooo happy with her choice). Lovik has a pier so you should be able to take your guests from the English church to Lovik very easily by boat. Lovik's prices are also very good (and include free bar).

Early August!!?? Then you had better move fast, that is the most popular time for weddings here in Sweden. Saltsjöbaden Grand Hotell advised us to book at least one year in advance for an August wedding. The popular places will probably already have several bookings for summer 2007 by now.....

You mentioned "free bar" - what does that mean in Sweden as I have seen that on various packages? Does it literally mean that guests have free drinks for whole evening or?

Another question for you.....

How does the wedding photography work in Sweden? We are hoping to have some traditional English shots ? which include photos at the church after the service of the bride and her family, the groom and his family, the bride and her friends, the groom with his friends etc. Is this the same in Sweden?

Also, the couple usually get a lovely album included in the package? Is this the same in Sweden or do you tend just to get a cd with all the images on?

All my friands have had different photography sessions so I don´t really think there is a tradition? The photographer will do exactly what you want.
I can recommend our photographer, he listned completely to what we wanted. (we want a cd and he shot us before the wedding) We liked his bright photos and the way he makes his models eyes "sparkle". I thing he does albums aswell? Here is his webpage: patrikadolfsson.com/index.asp

See to it that you meet the photographer in good time before the wedding to see that you understand eachother and to see his or hers earlier work. =)

Free bar to me is free drinks all evening, thougt there are maybe 5 simple drinks to choose from then.

Yes, free bar means that after the dinner the bar will open and all drinks are "free of charge", but like Blue Topaz said there is usually some limitation on the selection.

We visited Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden in April (I think) and spoke to a woman named Karin (I think), but later decided on Häringe slott instead (which is lovely but can only seat 84 guests and then its a tight squeeze). It was Karin who said that August books up about a year in advance.

Btw - since your English speaking but getting married in Sweden, you should get in contact with Ian Johnson who is an English photographer who does work in Stockholm as well and has very highly reputation. You might have seen his ads in You & Your Weeding....

Haha, komiskt med tidningen! Jag har inte sett den själv men kommer nog få se den snart (kompisar som prenumererar och sparar åt oss).

Jag har fått tillbaka hela beloppet på bröllopsklänningen av Ehrlings plus omkostnader för sömmerskan som var tvungen att fixa den. Vilken lättnad! Men de tog ju så klart tillbaka klänningen.. lite sorgligt!

Har du fått räkningen från Grand?? Jag väntar fortfarande..
