    Marriage Certificate

    Hi girls

I am hoping someone may be able to help me. We are getting married in sweden (we are both British) and we were wondering what legal papers are given to the couple after the wedding and who gives it to us? In England, the vicar usually gives you a "Marriage Certificate" which shows you are legally married etc. Can anyone explain what happens in Sweden please?
    Thank you!

I think you should look on www.svenskakyrkan.se, you can choose the english language and it should give you some more information about everything.

Are you getting married in a church or a townhouse?

If you are living in Sweden, you first have to ask for an "hindersprövning" at the tax office (www.skatteverket.se)and filled it in, then you will after one or 2 wees receive it back as well as a Vigsel Intyg that you'll give to the vicar when you meet him.

    I hope I could help a little,

    Good luck!

You do get a certificate also in Sweden.

But I wonder, have you checked if couples where both are non-swedish citizens and not resident in Sweden (but maybe you are?) can legally get married in Sweden? I would check with the church or the city hall where you are getting married, or the länsstyrelse (county?) - or perhaps the Swedish Embassy in London.
I ask you to doublecheck just because some Swedish couples discover that cannot get a legally binding marriage in any country in the world they choose to go to, since local authorities don't always permit it and I really don't know what the case is in sweden...

Thanks girls for the help, I think I understand it more now. We are going to the skatteverket at the end of May to sign for our Hindersprovning. We understand that is only valid for 4 months, we are marrying in earlu August so that will be ok. So..have I got this right:
    1. We go to fill out the forms for the Hindersprovning.
    2. They send us that form back after 2 weeks.
    3. We take another form that we also get from the skattereverket (Vigsel Intyg) to the church when we get married
    4. Our vicar signs that form too and then we take it back to Skatteverket to get our marriage certificate

Hope that is right! We are both British and living in the UK at the moment but from what we have heard we can marry in sweden (in an Emglish Church)....I hope! Bit worried now from what anne på grönkulla said that it may not be permitetd! eek!
    Tack!

HAve you talked to the church? In that case it should be fine. They should know exactly what they can and cannot do legally - and for who.

Let me see if I can google up some information - I've just never come across the question before...
